Start with the reason to migrate
An unsupported runtime, expensive maintenance or a platform constraint can make migration necessary. A new technology alone does not define success. We first agree on the change you need: supported dependencies, a simpler release process, room for a feature or a clearer ownership model.
That outcome guides the target architecture. We consider the skills of the team that will maintain it, hosting requirements and the cost of operating both systems during a transition.
Preserve contracts as well as code
A migration can change more than syntax. Date handling, rounding, identifiers, permissions and database behavior can affect results even when the new screens look the same. External consumers may also depend on undocumented API behavior.
We identify those contracts and plan checks around representative workflows and data. If the business rules are unclear, reverse engineering comes before committing to the replacement scope.
Plan the data move and the cutover
A data plan should cover mappings, validation, reconciliation and what happens to records that cannot be migrated automatically. Test migrations help expose data quality problems before the final cutover.
The release approach may use a staged switch, parallel operation or a scheduled maintenance window. We define the conditions for proceeding, the rollback options and who verifies the business outcome. The exact downtime depends on the source and target systems.
Inputs and deliverables
Useful starting materials include a stack inventory, database overview, integration list, deployment constraints and the workflows that cannot be interrupted. Share your preferred target if one has already been chosen; we can also review that decision.
An agreed engagement can deliver migration tooling, updated application code, verification checks, a cutover plan and operating documentation. Start with a free technical assessment for an initial approach, timeline range and ballpark budget.
Work directly with senior engineers
LegacyRefit offers remote consulting for teams in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and other markets. Meet the engineers and share your time zone when arranging a call.
An engineer will reply within 2 business days. Once we have enough context, we normally provide the initial assessment within 2 business days.
